my background & vision
Tiana Adames studied Hair Styling at Infotep in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 2007. She started her own Salon in 2008 and ran it successfully until 2011 when she came to Canada. She has continuously updated her skills by taking several courses at Milano Hair Academy in Mississauga. Because of the ethnic diversity of her home country where there are all hair types, she can work her magic on any type of hair. The Dominican “Blowout”, whereby hair is straightened using only a blow dryer is one of her specialties. If you’ve been disappointed with the results at Black hair salons in the past, please come and see Tiana. You will be glad you did.
Steps to our success
HER FIRST SALON
After completing her training in Infotep, Tiana began working hard to open her own salon. With the help from her mom who had a small commercial space she could use and her sister who lent her some money, Tiana was able to start her own business in the neighbourhood where she lived in La Pina, Los Alcarrizos (a suburb of Santo Domingo). With time and dedication to her clients, her clientele grew. She often worked from sun up to sun down 7 days a week.
WELCOME TO CANADA
In May 2011, Tiana came to Canada to be with her Canadian husband, Jesse (whom she met and married in 2009). Although she had studied English in Dominican Republic, she studied hard to improve through the LINC and ESL programs offered to new immigrants. She knew that in order to succeed in a new country, the first thing to focus on was to learn the language and culture.
In early 2014, Tiana was hired at her first job in Canada working at a Tim Hortons in Mississauga. She was able to practice and improve her English while learning new skills. A few months later she decided her English had improved enough to make the jump back into her career in hairstyling. She got a job at a Salon in Oakville where she was able to learn the technical terms in English. A year later she went to another salon where she was able to start finding her own clients. With hard work and persistence, her clientele grew.
BRAND NEW VISION
In 2017 an opportunity came up that Tiana couldn’t pass up. The perfect commercial rental in Bronte Village. FILEDARIA was created to offer a new type of salon experience where clients can come by and relax – completely unrushed and with tranquility. Tiana wants to offer her vision and client experience to all those people who have struggled to find a salon where they feel at home. Filedaria officially opened on July 1st with a small party to celebrate the occasion.
